Language as an Early Warning
Research shows that changes in language patterns — including word choice, sentence structure, and communication frequency — can be early indicators of mental health changes. Our AI monitors these patterns with care and privacy in mind.
What the AI Detects
The system looks for patterns correlated with mental health concerns, not diagnoses. It identifies:
- Withdrawal from regular communication patterns
- Language shifts associated with hopelessness or helplessness
- Expressions of self-worthlessness or social isolation
- Changes in communication timing (late-night activity, irregular patterns)
- Keywords and phrases associated with self-harm indicators
Privacy and Sensitivity
Mental health information is among the most sensitive data the system handles. Alerts are delivered only to designated guardians with appropriate severity context, and the system never labels a child — it describes patterns that may warrant a supportive conversation.
What to Do
If you receive a mental health alert, approach your child with empathy and openness. Resources like Need to Talk? (1737) and Youthline (0800 376 633) are available 24/7. The goal is to start a conversation, not to interrogate.
